Understand the metrics

LCP measures main-content loading, INP interaction responsiveness and CLS visual stability. Reference good-experience thresholds are LCP at or below 2.5 seconds, INP at or below 200 milliseconds and CLS at or below 0.1, usually assessed at the 75th percentile of visits. They capture important experience dimensions, not every aspect of an online store.

Improve LCP

Identify the largest visible image or text element on product and category pages. Heavy hero images, slow server responses and render-blocking resources delay display. Prioritise the critical image, cache correctly and avoid lazy-loading content that should appear immediately.

Reduce slow interactions

Menus, cart buttons, filters and variant selectors can feel unresponsive when JavaScript blocks the main thread. Measure problematic interactions, reduce unnecessary work and break up long tasks. A fast initial load does not prove the page stays responsive.

Prevent layout shifts

Reserve space for images and dynamic blocks, provide dimensions and avoid inserting banners above visible content. Review web fonts and mobile cart feedback. Sudden layout movement can cause customers to press the wrong element.

Use field and lab data

Search Console and PageSpeed Insights may show real-user information when eligible; Lighthouse and browser tools help reproduce suspected causes. Different measurement conditions explain why scores differ. Segment mobile and desktop and check improvement over time.

Prioritise commercial workflows

Product pages and checkout screens may matter more than the homepage. Rank fixes by user impact, business risk and effort. Regression-test checkout, menus and analytics after every optimisation, and monitor changes following new scripts or redesigns.

Review checklist

  • Measure key templates
  • Find the LCP element
  • Reduce JS long tasks
  • Reserve media space
  • Compare field and lab

Practical next steps

Before making changes, record your versions, business constraints and reproducible issues. I can help with website performance optimisation, or you can describe your project on the contact page. The goal is a tested, maintainable improvement rather than another unnecessary dependency.
