An audit needs actionable output

An effective report explains the observed problem, its business impact and how a fix will be verified. Start with buying and operational workflows, then investigate storefront, admin, hosting and integration layers.

Checks 1–3: uptime and transactions

Review HTTP errors, TLS, redirects and server logs. Test product selection, cart, account, shipping and payment. Match the created order with payment confirmation, internal status and transactional email. Silent breaks in this chain matter more than cosmetic warnings.

Checks 4–6: speed and mobile

Measure Core Web Vitals on commercially important pages, not only the homepage. Inspect heavy media, third-party scripts and blocked interactions. Verify menus, filters, forms, keyboard access and usability on real mobile viewports.

Checks 7–9: catalogue and integrations

Check variants, stock, pricing rules, duplicated records and customer/order relations. Review cron jobs, ERP synchronisation, product feeds and shipping modules. Error logs must distinguish delayed processing from permanently lost events.

Checks 10–12: SEO, security and recovery

Verify canonical pages, indexability, titles, sitemaps, 404 handling, redirects and internal links. Inspect software updates, permissions and admin accounts. Restore a full backup in isolation to prove recovery is possible.

Prioritise by business impact

Rank findings by probability, breadth, financial impact, effort and regression risk. Payment failures and data loss outrank cosmetic issues. For each fix retain evidence, reproduction steps and before-and-after measurements.

Review checklist

  • Verify the payment chain
  • Test mobile performance
  • Audit catalogue and APIs
  • Check indexing and security
  • Test restoration
